Coming in hot on the heels of the amazing Sydney Festival, following a stint in Melbourne and Tasmania’s 2016 ‘Dark Mofo’ festival, the House of Mirrors is poised to be one of the Auckland Art’s Festival’s most popular events.

The mind-bending concept — an age-old carnival attraction — has been conceived by two Australian installation artists with a high aesthetic, Christian Wagstaff and Keith Courtney. Prior to designing their geometric wonderland, made from 40 tonnes of steel and 15 tonnes of glass, the pair had studied the recurrence of reflective glass as a motif in art, performance and cinema.

Set to be installed outdoors at Silo Park, the reflective playground will also take into account the weather conditions to add another element. While we implore you to not be afraid, the idea is definitely to take a good hard look at yourself for the sake of getting “a significant emotional reaction” says Wagstaff.

In a world where we struggle to decipher what is real and what is not on a daily basis, we think that House of Mirrors is a highly appropriate addition to the highly anticipated city-wide festival. At the very least, it’ll make for a great Instagram opportunity.
