Richmond & Domain Kitchen is set to become your new Grey Lynn go-to

Wherever they can, they hope to work with locals in the community...

Taking over the space once occupied by Richmond Road’s Jafa cafe, Richmond & Domain Kitchen is providing the heart of Grey Lynn with a new neighbourhood spot. Named after the road on which it sits, as well as owner Steven Wen’s first outpost, Domain Ayr in Parnell, the modern eatery sees a light space where thoughtful food meets a crisp interior.

The cafe’s interior was given a much-needed gussy-up, with skylights added to illuminate the upper level, inserts and indoor greenery to connect the two floors, a fresh lick of paint on the walls and artwork by the Sunday barista, Ahn Kin, to inject life to the space.

On the ground, you’ll find the friendly and enthusiastic Kamal Haggerty running the show while the kitchen is helmed by Vitto Monasterio who is serving simple, delicious all-day fare. There are organic quinoa pancakes served with blueberries, chia jam and coconut yoghurt and the classic avocado hash with poached eggs on mixed grain bread. For a more hearty meal, you can’t go awry with the half-day cooked pulled lamb served with rosemary flatbread, and a tomato and cucumber salad on top of a bed of citrus labneh. The labneh is perfectly tangy while the lamb falls apart nicely.

There is a myriad of sides, meals for the kids, and an extensive beverages menu that encompasses a range of carefully curated organic wines. The smoothies and fresh juices have been created with the help of Feel Fresh nutrition — the beetroot, ginger, lemon, apple turmeric with 60ml of cold-brew Atomic coffee is definitely worth a try.

Wherever they can, the team has endeavoured to work with locals and will be holding events to get the community involved. The ‘Wineocracy’ for example, is an event they have coming up that will see a range of wines being tasted and voted onto the ‘wines by the glass’ menu.

Give the people what they want, they say. I mean, who can disagree with that?
