The food trucks have been a worldwide phenomenon for a good few years now, yet, in Auckland, a moveable feast (on wheels) is something we still find ourselves excited by. While we make it our mission to hit up each and every one — all in the name of food journalism, of course — it can be hard to lure them to the inner city, making lunchtime pitstops out of the question. In a bid to solve our problem, Britomart and the Auckland Food Truck Collective have joined forces, rounding up Auckland’s best food trucks and bringing them to Takutai Square — for just one day only.
The event will herd together all the favourites, including the likes of The Rolling Pin, whose dumpling delights are often longed for in the Denizen office, and Double Dutch Fries, the team who do magical things to the humble potato, not to mention Peach’s Hot Chicken — the newbies on the scene who are changing the way we look at fried chicken. The food extravaganza will also be amped up by a medley of Britomart’s nearby eateries, including Ebisu and Mexico, who will be serving their traditional fare in a street-food style.
In a bid to turn the food festivities up a notch, Mexico will also be setting up a bar with outdoor seating (including bean bags) while British vocalist Lee Gray will be serenading the crowds — for there’s nothing that pairs with street food better than an ice cold beer and some quality music. Heating up Takutai Square from 11am – 9pm on Thursday 4th October, this street food spectacular will serve as a delicious lunchtime pitstop and after-work hotspot. You’ll be able to find us there from 6pm onwards, starting our weekend early…
