Auckland Fish Market is the only place you need to be this Waitangi Day

Just as we thought the holiday season was coming to an end, Waitangi Day is upon us and we’re more than ready for another break. In commemoration of the historical treaty, Auckland Fish Market is putting on a show and everybody is welcome.

The family-friendly event kicks off at 1pm and will go on until well after dark. There will be face painting and balloon art to occupy the children while you eat your way through the market’s delicious line-up, including Azabu, Tiki Thai and Mar & Tierra (to name a few.) And if that wasn’t enough, there will be additional food specials being put on in honour of the day, seeing Kiwi classics such as paua and mussel fritters, fresh oysters and other Kai Moana taking centre stage.

Classic jams will be played by DJs Frank Booker and Bobby Brazuka to warm everyone up for a long day of food and entertainment. From 2pm, Drums of the Pacific will take visitors on a cultural journey with traditional dances and a special performance of the sacred Māori haka. The night will be wrapped up with Latin Aotearoa playing a live set of fusion Latin and Kiwi tunes before Booker steps in with his last set to round out the night.

Be sure to stick around for one of the best views of the Auckland Harbour Bridge where, from 9pm, the story of the islands of Waitematā from the perspective of Te Kawerau a Maki will be told through a light show not to miss.

Waitangi Day at Auckland Fish Market will take place from 1pm until 10pm, Wednesday, 6th February. For more information, click here.
