Dr. Seuss's The Cat in The Hat Live

How to entertain the whole family these school holidays

Let’s face it, we could all do with a holiday right now. But the kids, bless them, are getting in first. To make sure you all enjoy the forthcoming time together, we’ve gathered together a list of activities that are sure to entertain both you and the children these school holidays.

Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in The Hat Live
Everybody’s favourite Dr Seuss is coming to the stage with a one-day-only performance of his famous The Cat in The Hat story. The words “I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny, but we can have lots of good fun that is funny” may never ring truer for your fun-seeking little ones. (Saturday 18th July, Bruce Mason Centre.)

Young Guns Skate School
Employing the talents of some of New Zealand’s best skateboarders, Young Guns Skate School is, again, a great option for teaching kids the essentials of skating in a fun, safe environment. Encouraging ideals of respect and perseverance in mini Tony Hawks of all levels, classes are suitable for children aged 4 to 15, with programmes that also run during the term, and not just for the school holidays.

Stardome
Experience Stardome’s incredible 360-degree Planetarium. With two shows running during the school holidays; The Matariki Dawn show shares the story behind why we can only see Matariki at certain times of the year and learn the Maori names of the stars. We Are All Stars offers children and adults a journey into space, and where we all came from.

The Space Maze
Aotea Square will be transformed by The Space Maze. The Open Fort has transformed the square into an interactive space for all ages. Get lost inside the maze, challenge your friends and family to a colourful race and discover words of kindness hidden under your feet. After dark the space takes on a new dimension with the glow of DotDot’s animated projections from above.

Drive-In movie nights at MOTAT
Enjoy a memorable movie experience on the largest outdoor screen in the country with Drive-In movie nights at MOTAT. Every Friday and Saturday until 1st August, round up the friends and family for an evening of classic films such as Babe, Labyrinth and Jurassic Park on offer alongside the Fritz Hotdogs, and Double Dutch Fries, this is sure to be a great night out for all.
