The results are in. The inaugural Denizen Everyday Heroes saw thousands of votes cast in support of local businesses, with the aim of shining a light on the people and places whose services we rely upon. So without further ado, celebrate the best bakeries Auckland city has to offer, as voted by you.
1. MOST VOTED: Amano, Britomart
Not just a delicious all-day eatery with some of the best pasta and burrata in town, Amano also boasts a bakery window that draws in hungry crowds seven days a week. Celebrating the finest European baking traditions, you’ll find loaves of sourdough and ciabatta sitting alongside pastries, cakes, tarts and some of the tasiest sandwiches around. Croissants are also a speciality, with the irresistibly flaky almond croissant a must-try.
2. HONOURABLE MENTION: Daily Bread, Citywide
Since opening its first outpost in Pt Chev in early 2018, Daily Bread has pursued excellence in the realm of artisanal baked goods. As well as being home to some of the best sourdough in town, its other treats (think cheese twists, cardamom morning buns, and various fruit danishes) add yet another reason to visit to one of its five locations around the city.
3. HONOURABLE MENTION: Little & Friday, Ponsonby & Newmarket
Since 2007, the ever-popular Little & Friday has been on hand to offer Aucklanders a much-needed pick-me-up in the form of its irresistible baked delights. Having recently relocated its Belmont site to the bustling centre of Ponsonby Road, Little & Friday’s recognisable cakes, quiches, donuts and more are still as fantastic as ever.
