This Morningside lunch room gets a welcome rebirth; come one, come all.
We do love a good makeover, and it appears that The Mustard Kitchen does too, having spent the last three months giving an old lunch bar in Morningside a new lease on life. Sitting comfortably on a corner site at the Kingsland end of Morningside Drive, the rebirth was deemed complete just days before our visit, and we were pleasantly surprised to spot the existing lunch bar’s faded ‘FOOD’ sign still in tact.
Things are refreshingly straightforward here, just as a local daytime eatery should be. Staff run about in denim dungarees, there’s swappa crates to perch on outside, the coffee is Kokako and there’s a solid selection of smoothies, iced coffees and fresh juices available. On the food side of things, you can expect to find tasty sandwiches, filled rolls, takeaway salads and sweet treats. And there are pies, lots of them in fact, all homemade, with a selection of hearty classics, such as a steak and ale number, done exceptionally well.
The Mustard Kitchen is a comfortably laid back operation, and despite being only days old, we’re certain the folks here will soon find themselves inundated with local foot traffic.
