Set in the peaceful surrounds of the Parnell’s Jubilee Building is a handsome new cafe attracting the vicinity’s tenants, neighbours, and visitors alike. Those in pursuit of a leisurely coffee and bite to eat following their leisurely appreciation of the nearby Domain’s verdant appeal, will also find solace in the recently opened Foundation on George.

This brand new coffee shop has succeeded the former Foundation café with a fit out undertaken by Sophie Beever of the project design team at neighbouring Cavit & Co. Underscoring the brick beauty of the building’s construction are distinctive elements such as the contemporary mustard coloured chairs and various lighting features, rounded off by the polished cement underfoot.

Entering from the courtyard, you’ll encounter a cabinet brimming with home-made treats including the ever-popular pies in both classic mince and Guinness beef alongside a plethora of guilty indulgences: brioches, freshly baked rhubarb tarts, ginger loaf and an array of sweet and savoury scones. Fans of the former café‘s revered club sandwiches will be pleased to note that these have maintained pride of place at the new premises also.

For those who can afford a little more time when it comes to their breakfast routine, there’s the menu from which to choose something more substantial. The baked eggs prepared with pancetta, baby spinach, Marsden cheese and fresh herbs make for a hearty start to the day while the smashed avocado, served with two poached eggs and slow roasted tomato is fresh alternative – both as satisfying as they are delicious.

There’s no denying the wholesome endeavour undertaken by the new residents of this tranquil corner, offering a serene café setting interrupted only by the busy comings and goings of the already regular patrons.
