For a great night guaranteed, we can't think of a better place to put your money
Home and Family Counselling is New Zealand’s second oldest charity. Established in 1893 as ‘The Society for the Protection of Women and Children’, their imperative work has born a fundraising event, 124 years in the making. Titled ‘Puttin’ on the Glitz’, the highly anticipated evening will be held in the Grand Foyer of the Auckland Museum on Tuesday 17th October with its objective being to raise funds for 320 after-hours counselling sessions for low-income families.
Today, the organisation delivers counselling services in the Auckland region for only a voluntary contribution. That is, accessible, professional counselling for young people, individuals, couples and families at their Mt Eden, Northcote and Orewa centres. Furthermore, Home and Family Counselling provides youth programmes in schools, safety programmes for women and children, and a senior’s programme for people aged 60 and older.
For $200 per person, each ticket will give you access to bubbles on arrival, drinks, dinner, dessert and epic entertainment by Boh Runga, Mike Chunn, and other alumni from the latter musician’s Play It Strange organisation (Campbell MacKenzie and Chess Wilson) which allows young people to find and express themselves through music. Having fostered some exceptional talent, you can count on this one-off event as being one to remember.
“Originally our focus was on helping women and children who had been abused or abandoned by their husbands and fathers and also a large number of unmarried mothers and their babies,” says HFC’s Marketing Manager, Connie Miller. Having evolved to advocate for the protection of young people, this organisation has also helped to establish the Youth Court, raise the age of consent from 14 to 16, and have incest included in the Crimes Act.
With a hallowed past championing the rights of young people and making their protection paramount, we can’t think of a better place to put your money. With the prospect of a great night guaranteed, we suggest you get a few friends together and head along to support this excellent cause.
