These local coffee roasters are remaining firmly ahead of the game with their swish new Kingsland premises.
Some would say that those at the top of their game only have one way to go. Nevertheless, this doesn’t seem to be the case for our favourite local coffee roasters, Atomic. Having returned from a visit to their newly minted, Kingsland premises, we can tell they intend on staying put in their standing as one the foremost purveyors of coffee in the country.
The old “new year, new me” adage rings true for the roastery’s long-standing headquarters on New North Road having put the finishing touches on the space in the early days of January. It comes as no surprise that the fit-out has been masterminded by local design practice Material Creative in a manner that reflects Atomic’s distinctive, all-black branding. The warm yet utilitarian interior features copper accents aplenty, various wood and leather touches alongside luxurious marble finishings.
The slick modern space now boasts a range of new features including the same coffee machine used at the World Barista Championship, the Black Eagle, customised to match the aforementioned colour scheme. From behind the coffee bar, a window opens up directly onto the street, accommodating drive-by orders of your favourite brew. That said, you’ll inevitably want to step foot inside and take a seat to sample a couple of their delicious new menu items that are really hitting the spot.
Everybody’s favourite morning order, the avocado smash, has been introduced, combining the flavours of feta, broad beans, lime and coriander to establish a healthy green melange that will surely have you hooked. Also new to the menu is the smoky creamed corn, served with a side of Harmony bacon, roasted vine tomatoes and toasted rye. Then, of course, the are the beverages. Take your pick from any caffeinated libation the heart desires, be it the classic espresso, batch brew or cold brew, or, one of our favourite new drinks, the Cascara Iced Tea. Made from the coffee cherry, it’s subtlety sweet and superbly refreshing — a perfect option for the weather we’ve been having lately.
So if you’re in the neighbourhood and looking for a spot to brunch with a side of superb coffee, you should probably pop in to check out Atomic’s slick new digs. They’ll be starting table service as of February 9th and it’s worth keeping in mind that the space is still available for private function hire if you happen to be on the hunt for a light and modern space in which to entertain.
