Christian Dior’s lucky charm inspires the brand’s Rose des Vents collection

I have a favourite flower and I have a lucky charm. It’s lucky because of who gave it to me, it has sentimental value and good things have happened when wearing it, so the superstitious side of me believes it must hold some form of magical force. Christian Dior also had a favourite flower, a rose, and a good luck charm, a star, and it is these two motifs that have inspired the incredible Rose des Vents collection.

The two symbols were significant to Dior for various reasons. Spending his early life in Granville, Normandy, Dior’s family garden was filled with roses, and his home’s décor was inspired by the romantic floral. He also travelled with a wind rose (a navigational device that preceded the compass) that featured a star-like emblem. In later years, when the superstitious designer moved to Paris, he found a similar-looking object on the ground and interpreted it as a sign to open his couture house.

The Maison’s acclaimed jewellery director, Victoire des Castellane, has combined Monsieur Dior’s lucky star and wind rose in the Rose des Vents collection. Featuring double-sided medallions that turn in their settings — one side displaying the eight-point star motif and the other, gemstones or diamonds — the rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings are nothing less than exquisite. Utilising elegant materials from mother of pearl, which symbolises gentleness and femininity, through to the lapis lazuli, which is an emblem of serenity and friendship — each design is meticulously curated to honour the couturier.

So, you can count the lucky stars that Christian Dior’s were aligned, for the Rose des Vents collection is the perfect accompaniment for a fortuitous life.
