Jeff Koons and Louis Vuitton combine for an epic new collab

Following on from collaborations with some of the world’s influential artists — Kusama, Murakami and Sherman, to name but a few — Louis Vuitton has just announced its latest release, a handbag and accessories line with contemporary art’s man-of-the-moment, Jeff Koons.

Launching on Friday 28th April worldwide, ‘Masters’ merge Koons’ eclectic attitudes with the French fashion house’s timeless aesthetic. Transplanting works from his ‘Gazing Ball’ paintings — a famed series that saw the New York-based artist hand-paint reproductions of Old Masters’ most famous works — onto some of Louis Vuitton’s most iconic bags, the pieces are finished off by brazenly stamping the original artist’s surnames on the front in bronze or silver lettering.

With playful blue and pink features, nods to pop culture and Koons’ own initials lying alongside the iconic LV monogram, Koons said of the collaboration,  “I wanted them to become art. I believe that these bags are art.” Just the first stage in the collaboration, with further pieces set to be announced, you can explore the initial drop on Louis Vuitton’s website, here.
