POP Projects wants to put you pooch in the spotlight — and deservingly so.
With a mission “to create happenings, things, spectacles, ideas, performances, connections, and experiences in your neighbourhood,” POP Projects have been appearing on our radar for some time now with its delightful existence being to make fun, unite strangers, and fuse creativity and community on every street corner of the city. This time, it’s your pooch (and of course, proud owners) who will benefit from POP’s community-driven, participatory projects.
Their latest? POP Dogs. An outdoor dog photo shoot will take place under the direction of Auckland creative collaboration Kirby & Young, designed to be no less than a celebratory day out for Aucklanders and their pooches. All and sundry are invited to show off their four-legged pals in a curated outdoor photo shoot; an Alt Group-designed dog pavilion that will be set up in Victoria Park for dogs to pose for a free, personalised portrait taken by a professional photographer. The photographs will then feature on the POP website and POP Dogs’ social media channels.
Carried out by the creative union of Olivia Young and Paris Kirby — the former works as an arts consultant, specialising in communications and project management, community engagement and curation while Kirby coordinates the design and management of unique projects that spark interactions between community, environment and culture. And we think they might have hit the nail on the head with this one. Given the increasingly dedicated (read: obsessive) parenting styles that are par for the course when it comes to man’s best friend, we can’t think of a more appropriate way to enshrine one’s beloved pup.
#POPDogs will be taking place on Sunday 19th June at Victoria Park from 9:00am – 1:00pm. Find out more here.
