When Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth hit screens in 2006, the world took notice. Telling it like it was, the one-time presidential candidate forced the facts of climate change upon us with vehemence, showing with no unfaltering certainty that if we, and the powers that be, didn’t instantly take notice and adapt, our world wouldn’t survive. For all its success and earth-shattering revelations however, it turns out — we didn’t get the picture. So this year, Gore returns with An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth or Power, a new documentary showing us the harsh consequences of our inaction.
Highlighting how even the original documentary’s most ridiculed predictions are beginning to come to fruition, the new film shows how, in just 10 years, the world’s environmental standing has declined. Following his tireless crusade, it’s a painfully tough journey in which a visibly weary Gore constantly finds himself up against big corporations, governments and climate change deniers that simply refuse to accept the facts. A powerful film and timely reminder that we cannot afford to slacken any further, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth or Power does show that there is still hope — so long as we are willing to change. A celebrated screening at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, the documentary is due for release in late July.
