So frenchy, so chic: How to celebrate Bastille Day

While we can’t claim we were present during the storming of Bastille, naturally we’re using any excuse to celebrate à la mode on July 14. Arguably the month of all things French, injecting a little joie de vivre into your life is all but essential on this proudest of French dates. Whether you’re partial to a freshly baked croissant, appreciate an authentically curated cheeseboard, consider yourself a wine connoisseur or wouldn’t mind a little Parisian preening; we’ve scoured the city for the best of the Bastille best, available right here on your doorstep.

1. To start the day:
For those looking to start the day with a warm croissant, nobody makes the quintessentially French delights quite like French patissier Guillaume Nicoli and partner Hiroe Nicoli at Ma Cherie. (282 Ponsonby Rd)

2.  For lunch:
For a light lunch you can’t surpass the delicious French fare on offer at our favourite Britomart stop, L’assiette(9 Britomart Place)

3. The bread:
For a freshly baked baguette, head to renowned boulangerie La Voie Francaise. May we suggest a macaron (or six) for later. (875 Dominion Rd)

4. The cheeseboard:
You needn’t be a cheese connoisseur to master the ultimate in French indulgences, the lovely staff at C’est Fromage have it covered. On hand to tailor-make a party-perfect cheeseboard; whether chèvre, bleu, Comté or camembert – if it’s French and it’s fromage, you’ll find it here. Boasting the most expansive range of French cheese and charcuterie in the city, you’ll leave one very happy customer indeed. (5 McColl Street, Newmarket)

5. The scent:
Coco Chanel once said “a woman who does not wear perfume has no future” and we just so happen to agree. Indulge in a little French finesse with a bottle of Chanel No.5. Alternatively, fill your space with a scent reminiscent of a stroll amidst the blooming sanctuary at the château in Rueil Malmaison.

6. For Dinner:
We’re spoilt for choice in this city, but for a truly delightful French meal, you can’t go past Paris Butter. This thriving new Herne Bay establishment has garnered a reputation for fresh and delicious French fare that’s bound to leave you singing ‘la vie en rose’ late into the night. (166 Jervois Rd)

7. To drink:
Whether you’re in the mood for an exclusive Bastille wine tasting that’s equal parts informative as it is indulgent, or simply after a delicious range of stellar vintages to enjoy by the fire at home; we suggest you get acquainted with Maison Vauron. For the more refined palate, Bordeaux’s finest Sturia Caviar is on offer here too. (5 McColl Street, Newmarket)

8. The outfit:
Typifying all things pared-back Parisian, Isabel Marant does it like nobody’s business. The collection is available locally at Workshop. (find a store here)
