Every year, around the beginning of December, one of the most import design fairs takes place — Design Miami. This year, with more artists and designers featuring than ever before, we thought it pertinent to round-up some of the more notable occurrences.
The Faena District Officially Opened
After several years of development, the Faena District officially opened to mark the beginning of the four-day fête. Dutch architectural firm OMA designed three buildings along Collins Avenue including an arts centre, the Faena Forum. Studio Job installed an amazing eight-metre tall ‘Tree of Life’ (pictured) outside.
The Future Perfect debuted a landslide of New Works
Leaders of contemporary furnishings, The Future Perfect, had new works by Lindsey Adelman, Michael Anastassiades, Dimore Studio, Lex Pott, John Hogan, Kristin Victoria Barron, Christopher Stuart and Eric Roinestad littered throughout their display. Anastassiades’ loop lighting systems by easily stole the show.
Henge announced its collaboration with Yabu Pushelberg
A festive soirée at Solesdì showroom took place to unveil not only Henge’s new collection by Massimo Castagna but also the brand’s special collaboration with Yabu Pushelberg. The whimsical new design pieces and materials, including the Mushroom Tables collection, made guests rethink the relationship between people and the places we live.
Fendi designed a ‘Happy Room’
Italian designer Cristina Celestino conceived Fendi’s ‘Happy Room’ rendered in pastels with pieces including a fox-trimmed couch and armchair, a standing mirror, an onyx, marble and brass vanity and low marble tables. Bringing a smile to visitors’ faces, it was the fashion house’s first-ever travelling VIP room.
Louis Vuitton introduced two new items to their Objets Nomades collection
The Campana Brothers conceived a striking fur cocoon that was introduced to LV’s coveted Objets Nomades collection alongside the Blossom Stool by Tokijin Yoshioka. They were the only two designed items added to the existing collection that comprises a swing chair, a lounge and a lamp amongst other pieces.
