The mid century makeover you need to see

Palm Springs, with its arid desert, single storey homes and overabundance of kidney-shaped pools is America’s epicentre of mid-century design. A standing homage to the 50s and 60s, every year the desert city draws in lovers of all things old-school as it hosts the annual Modernism Week. Filled with suitably suave goings-on that’d impress The Rat Pack themselves, this year’s ‘number one must see’ as named by The Hollywood Reporter was The Christopher Kennedy Compound: Modernism Week Show House, a project that saw some of America’s finest designers transform one room each in a dilapidated house to bring it back to its former fifties glory. With designers like Martyn Lawrence-Bullard, Carson Kressley, Julia Buckingham and Kelli Ellis each bringing their unique taste to the project, the aesthetic shifts from room to room, but the home’s stunning original architecture works to unify the design, making for a well-connected, harmonious experience.
