A unique apartment concept that's bringing a slice of The Big Apple to Auckland.
We’ve long talked about the dawn of a new age for apartment living. With innumerable developments popping up in every corner of the city, we Aucklanders are now spoilt for choice with the prospect of luxurious urban living. Yet alluring though these designs might be, until now, none have truly offered a bona fide ‘New York loft’-style situation. Enter the final release of SKHY — the apartment/commercial complex coming to life at the junction of Symonds Street and Khyber Pass.
We’ve long been aware of the gorgeous apartments that comprise the first release of the Cheshire Architects x Lamont & Co-directed project, but it’s the final release that’s proving to be the game-changer. Launching in May-July of this year, SKHY’s next phase will introduce offices and retail spaces to the area, transforming it into an entirely new urban precinct. In terms of its residential enhancements, however, what’s really tickled our fancy has been the talk of warehouse-style living.
SKHY’s warehouse apartments will boast a luxuriously high stud that allows for unprecedented flexibility. Following an open, rectangular floor plan whereby the bathroom, laundry and kitchen are clustered together — known as the ‘service box’ — the remainder of the layout is free to be customised by whoever takes up residence. The apartments, which are characterised by exposed concrete beams and an inviting use of materials, are also available in two-storey variations with an upstairs area that houses an extra bedroom and en suite; the perfect solution for overnight guests or a child’s bedroom.
These north facing loft-style apartments are just one of the final offerings in the almost sold-out development. With new, smaller terrace apartments that will suit savvy city-dwellers down to the ground, all due for completion by the end of 2019, we suggest you get along to the display suite to peruse the covetable living options at this stellar new precinct. Suffice to say, it is big city living at its best.
