There are pieces of furniture that can sit in a home and seamlessly blend with those around it, and there are those that are anything but inconspicuous. The Longing Cabinet somehow does both. Designed by Nika Zupanc and created by Italian metalworking atelier De Castelli, it’s an iconic piece that pays homage to the old world, where each compartment holds something different — candles, biscuits and trinkets hidden away from curious children — with a key for each.
Traditionally the type of cabinet you would find in a deep, aged wood, this modern reimagining introduces a copper finish which, over time, naturally changes colour, adding texture and light to the design. De Castelli is renowned for creating unexpected interpretations of furniture, all meticulously crafted, resulting in more than just interior homewares and much like objects of art. The Longing Cabinet can be sought out locally at David Shaw.
