Assuming an esteemed place in furniture-making history, German marque ClassiCon, founded in 1990, is known for making modern classics — masterpieces of yesterday and today that will remain to be masterpieces of tomorrow too. The brand’s timeless and forward-thinking furnishings are conceived by a savvy mix of the 20th century’s best names in contemporary design as well as a shrewd selection of up-and-comers who ensure ClassiCon’s catalogue remains invigorating and boundary-pushing. Established figures such as Eileen Gray and Eckart Muthesius — both prolific in the mid-1900s — are just as relevant today as the new generation that comprises the likes of Konstantin Grcic and Victoria Wilmotte.
ClassiCon’s designs have a knack for achieving immediate iconic status. Take the unusual metallic elegance of Wilmotte’s Pli side table, for example. Released only two years ago, straight away it became a lustrous, must-have lounge accent. Juxtapose that with Gray’s 1925 Day Bed which looks as though it could have been designed in the current decade. Striking the perfect balance between classicism and modernity, below you can find a small selection of quintessential ClassiCon pieces, all of which are available through local showroom Matisse.
