A summer tan may look good on everyone, but when it comes to choosing sunglasses to see you through the warmer season, the rules are not so democratic. Unfortunately, unless you have a heart-shaped face, those aviators you’ve been eyeing up might not be as good ‘IRL’ as they look on the shelf. Similarly, those with round faces should run for the hills when confronted with any Gaga-esque, circular-framed numbers. In an attempt to help you see the light (so to speak) we have rounded up our favourite shades for guys and girls to suit each face shape, so you can avoid a sunglass disaster.

Use your sunglasses to accentuate your face rather than alter it. Cat eye and aviator styles are wider at the top and will complement your natural features.

Those lucky enough to sport an oval face can get away with most things when it comes to sunglasses. Dare to experiment with a variety of styles and shapes — it’ll pay off.

If your face is round, look for angular and square styles to add definition and shape. Strategically chosen glasses can even give the impression of accented cheekbones.

Utilise curvature in your eyewear to effectively soften a square shaped face. Angular jawlines and cheekbones are able to take on more rounded proportions.
