Ponsonby’s (and arguably Auckland’s) most esteemed fine-dining institution is putting a fresh foot forward following a stealth renovation that has been simmering away behind closed doors for the past few months. The acclaimed Sidart will be increasing its dining capacity by 20 seats thanks to the establishment of a contemporary new entranceway, bar and dining area called the Alhambra Room — a nod to the beloved predecessor restaurant that closed down in 2006.
Here, guests can sip on almighty cocktails created by newcomer Caellen Sparkes (MASU/The Jefferson) at the stunning new marble bar while they await the highly-anticipated dining experience destined to follow. Boasting a unique view over the sparkling Auckland skyline, the restaurant’s white linen tablecloths have been whipped away, replaced instead by bare oak tabletops that complement the moody deep blue hues and crisp details throughout. With the plush finishings and winsome materials masterfully put in place by the team at Orb Design, we barely need coaxing to book in for an evening at the new and improved Sidart.
