Ampersand embodies everything the new Orakei Bay Village is striving to achieve — an amalgamation of the best brands, boutiques, bars and eateries that make daily life in Auckland a beautiful thing.
We wouldn't be surprised if this newly-minted cafe x coffee space becomes OBV's darling.
Located in the heart of the warehouse development, we wouldn’t be surprised if this newly-minted cafe x coffee pitstop x all-day eatery becomes OBV’s darling. That said, it’s early days. With Friday marking Ampersand’s first day in operation, the team are still removing the masking tape and sweeping up the saw-dust.
The multi-hyphenate destination can facilitate 120 people thanks to its lofty-industrial interior, achieved with the help of Ctrl Space, and a vast deck offering a seriously soothing view over the Orakei Basin. One part ‘coffee alley’, Espresso Workshop is on hand to cater to your haute coffee needs (read: nitrogen coffee) and will soon take up roasting coffee beans behind the scenes. The other side of the vast space houses an open kitchen, pumping out dishes from an equally vast menu — a kick-ass breakfast ramen, sourdough crumpets with ricotta and burnt honey, and crème brulée French toast to name a few.
There is no denying that Ampersand is a very pleasing place to spend time, a collaborative space that features lickings of soft pink and dusty teal that graced the walls back when the warehouse was home to a gin distillery. Although it won’t be starting dinner service until Thursday this week, there is cold Hallertau beer on tap as well as a spate of other thirst-quenching offerings that make for an enticing excuse to pop in and get to know this promising Orakei newcomer.
