Beer lovers, meet your new 'tappy place'.
If you’re not into beer, then you might like to skip to the next article on your list. For here, we’re dedicating a few words to an unlikely destination dedicated to ales, lagers, stouts and all things hoppy. Located behind a rather pedestrian liquor store on Northcote Road is The Beer Spot — a garage-like space that has been transformed into a den for beer lovers.
At 1pm on a Friday, the place is comfortably occupied with fans of the brewed stuff enjoying a tap pour in the sunny backyard, if not sipping away on one as they find a moment’s reprieve, parked up on a comfy seat inside. With 60 taps and 40 fresh varieties on rotation at any given time, there’s the friendly staff as well as a board that ranks the ‘Tap 40’ (the place is littered with punny quips) to help you choose which beer to quaff. There’s For Great Justice‘s Coconut Porter, Hallertau’s Stuntman, ParrotDog‘s Wood Rose and so many more.
Of course, there was always going to be something to soak it all up with. This is where the real genius comes in; another rotation, this time of epic food trucks that are parked up all afternoon. Philippe’s Poutine Truck, The White Lady, The Melt and Pork ‘n’ Beans feature on the line up this week, ready to satiate anyone in need.
As a well-kept secret on the North Shore, if you’re serious about your beer, we suggest you pop by The Beer Spot to sit back and indulge (or take home) something new.
