This 80s-inspired Kingsland eatery is spotlighting Asian fried chicken & beer

“Put simply, Chicka is an Asian fried chicken and beer idea based on the Korean concept of ‘Chimaek'” explain the proprietors of a new Kingsland eatery of the same name. They are the first people to bring the concept to Auckland and we can be thankful for it. The 80s-inspired interior that graces the New North Road shop features pop art and music from the era when fried chicken first became big on the food scene.

Taking the main stage is a slew of the adored food touted in a number of flavours.  The Chicka Zappa is crispy chook covered in larb of fried chilli, lime, ground rice and Thai herbs sauce while the Chicka Wow WoW comprises crunchy, juicy chicken, drizzled in secret Thai curry sauce with coconut, chilli and Thai herbs. The variations go on. If you want to depart from the main category, you can try other dishes like the Corn Cheesy with corn, edamame bean, red onion, carrots and lots of cheese served on a sizzling hot plate, or the spicy deconstructed Kimchi Fried Rice with BBQ pork, and seaweed.

The Kingsland hotspot has already been garnering attention, frequented by those wanting a hit of flavoursome goodness and a cold beer in the sun. We’re pleased to say that Chicka is available on UberEATS. That said, tipping up in person is worth the wait. Find out more via Chicka’s Facebook page here.
