Would you like fries... as the main course?
‘Would you like fries with that?’ It’s a common question, asked when ordering cuisine from burger joints, taking a trip to the fish and chip shop, or passing through the drive-thru on the way home from a debaucherous night out. And obviously, you say yes every time. Heck, sometimes, it’s all you order, but one portion is never enough. That’s where new opening Fry Baby slides in; an eatery that’s looking to change the hot chip game for good.
It is a concept born from father and son team Roland Sokcevic Senior and Junior’s love of the traditional Belgian delicacy. Knowing full well that ‘frites’ (as they are so known in Belgium) deserved a place on the main stage, they have brought authentic Belgian-style fries — complete with a variety of sauces — front and centre as the main meal. The duo believes that they deserve hero status, and we’re inclined to agree.
For an experience that will be noticeably elevated from your usual side of fries, you’ll want to make a beeline for the bespoke eatery on Commerce Street which opens today at 11am. The interior, although small, is decked out in neon lights, with a red and white theme throughout. But the full encounter occurs when you bite into the crunchy, twice-fried-in-coconut-oil Agria spuds, creamy potato flavour within, doused in one of the many sauces… let’s be honest, you’re salivating already.
