HA! Poke is cleverly catering to our morning and midday cravings

With the rapid increase of poké places opening in Auckland, it takes something unique to stand out from the crowd. HA! Poke has done that in two ways. a) It not only serves up delicious, traditional savoury poké bowls, but also boasts a sweet morning menu too, and b) one of its founders happens to be Beyoncé’s part-time private chef.

Sold.

With a succinct and satisfying menu that offers just four bowls in the morning and four at lunch, the concept behind the new pitstop is all about attention to detail. For breakfast, diners are invited to choose between a porridge or sticky coconut rice base which are then gastronomically jazzed up with the addition of toppings like fruits, cereals, nut butters and seeds. Come lunch, it’s fragrant rice or fresh salad that forms the base, which is then layered with fresh raw tuna or Tarakihi, teriyaki chicken or tofu, with housemade sauces and a generous dousing of flavourful toppings like kimchi, edamame, crispy garlic, veggies and seaweed salad thrown on top.

Sweet in the morning, savoury at lunch, HA! Poke has nailed it. Sitting in a cool converted container on the University of Auckland campus (but open to all), if it’s good enough for Béyonce…
