Holy Shot is serving up your caffeine fix with a delicious side of doughnuts

Taking up a little post in the heart of Takapuna, Holy Shot is the cute, new coffee shop making a case for keeping things simple. Offering two things, coffee and doughnuts, as the ultimate combo to get you through the day, owners Shannon Cann and Tess Carey are bringing their brand of relaxed hospitality to the Hurstmere Road line-up, and it’s a real treat.

The interior is clean and fresh with a feature wall (reportedly subject to continual change) to reflect the area’s cool beach vibe. The concept is uncomplicated, but that’s what makes it work. Cann and Carey are focusing on cultivating a great culture and establishing lasting relationships with their regulars, which means that dropping in here for your daily flat white goes beyond just good coffee — it’s a fun and familiar experience that’s keeping the Takapuna crowd coming back.

The doughnuts being served from Tuesday to Sunday are brought in from Karangahape Road’s Doornuts and are vibrant and deliciously doughy, with vegan options also available. But the hero of the menu has to be the expertly made Havana Coffee from Wellington — Holy Shot is one of the only places on The Shore to offer their beans. With plans to offer seating out front and (subject to council consent) a cosy winter area on the mezzanine floor above the shop, this fresh new local is set to become a favourite in no time.
