Grangers

The unsung food hero of summer might just be the lobster roll

While we’ve been busy devouring oysters by the dozen and talking about ‘crudo‘ like it’s a vital part of the food pyramid, another seafood dish has been creeping up the ranks to blindside us with its simple deliciousness in time for the summer of 2018/19. The New England-inspired ‘lobster roll’ is a traditional American dish that sees a hot dog-style bun filled with mayonnaise-laden lobster (and other fruits de la mer), topped with a restaurant-specific garnish. In a celebration of this newly acknowledged food trend, we’ve rounded up three eateries proferring the summer delicacy in mighty fine style.

Grangers
Oozing relaxed seaside charm from its harbourside perch in Half Moon Bay, Grangers uses its position to an advantage by offering a veritable smorgasbord of delicious seafood delicacies and its lobster roll is one of them, topped with black sesame and nut brown butter for absolute perfection.

Charlie’s
Dubbed the ‘crab and prawn heart-stopper sandwich’, this delicious take on the classic employs a toasted brioche bun to encase crab and prawn, mayonnaise, iceberg lettuce, avocado, tomato, crisps and a side of shoestring fries, perfect for devouring a stone’s throw from Onetangi Beach.

Soul
Professed by many to be just about ‘the best lobster roll out there’, this special item, new to the menu and devised by Exec Chef Gavin Doyle, sees the lobster filling doused in double clarified butter before being mixed into a scrumptious filling, then squished into a brioche.
