Little Jimmy Bar & Eatery

Greenwoods Corner welcomes a laid-back local that is as casually charming as it is cause-driven.

While one doesn’t normally associate the suburb of Epsom with the same proclivity for gastronomic gems as say Ponsonby or Parnell, we dare say times… they are a-changing. Leading us to draw that clichéd but proof-backed conclusion is none other than day and night-time newcomer, Little Jimmy.

Making a substantial contribution to the social scene at Greenwoods Corner, this little brother to the wine-and-dine-ready One Tree Grill restaurant is a reverse of its elder sibling, choosing instead to facilitate a more laid-back approach to eating, drinking and being merry. But, one feature that most certainly sets it apart from most is its healthy obsession with the ‘little guy’.

Championing the cause of small growers and suppliers, here you’ll only be served ingredients and products sourced from our fair shores. Endeavouring to support smaller Kiwi business’ working their behinds bare to make their mark, the dominant market players aren’t welcomed here, instead, the menu has been crafted to highlight those deserving of the attention. Take for example the brunch Holy Grail of jalapeño cornbread, southern baked beans and burnt ends topped with the almighty poached egg. The health-obsessed will love the smoothie offerings – the Hulk Smash has our hearts with just the right blend of greens, avocado, kiwifruit, banana, vanilla, pea protein and almond milk.

Shifting into more substantial territory, the lunch offerings span boards that are sure to satisfy 2-4 appetites (we favour the one with Wakanui beef rump, salsa verde, pulled pork, apple slaw, gin-cured salmon, Clevedon buffalo mozzarella and pickled vegetables – who wouldn’t?!) but the sourdough pizza selection is pretty hard to beat too. You heard it here first, we foresee the rendition that comes topped with Otello’s artisanal wild boar salami, olives, chilli, parmesan, and oregano becoming a fast favourite among mice and men.

Alas for those who consider dinner the worthy meal of the day to dine out for, your options aren’t too shabby either. Start with a trio of Mibrasa Wakanui beef sliders with bacon and Gibbston Gruyere before diving into a ‘larger plate’ of veal schnitzel, horopito, cauliflower, tumeric and capers OR the carnivore’s dream – the curried Angus beef short rib with brown butter yoghurt accompanied by a refreshing herb salad.

Evidently there are a plethora of delectables eagerly awaiting your arrival at this new suburban destination, all we’ll say is that the force is strong with this one. So pack a light snack for your journey but by no means fill up as veracious appetites are always welcomed and greatly rewarded here.
