Lord Kitchener — the local spot Sandringham has been waiting for

Sandringham, the wait is over...your new local has finally arrived.

Named after the British Army officer who supposedly cured himself of malaria with a cold pint and good sleep, Lord Kitchener is the local spot Sandringham has been waiting for. Sitting just off the main drag where an expired pharmacy once lay, what we found when we visited the swish new watering hole, was a true blue British gastropub — done blimmin’ well.

Dishing up hearty fare like beer-battered fish and chips with mushy peas; bangers ‘n’ mash; sauce smothered stout wings; Yorkshire puds; chip butties and the pivotal roast beef with all the trimmings, the new Sandringham haunt plays the theme to the last note. But though inspiration is undoubtedly care of Old Blighty (seriously, one of the dishes is called ‘The Tally Ho’), the local community is where this pub’s loyalties lie. Offering a few clever nods to the area and its Indian backbone — like Executive Chef Ross Birch’s vindaloo mayonnaise and the old ‘Sandringham Pharmacy’ sign that’s been replicated on the interior wall — there can be no doubt that this is a place for the people.

With an outdoor courtyard for the sunny days, a cosy fire for the not-so-nice and a $12 menu for the sprogs, Lord Kitchener is the spot to be for a good old Saturday knees up and the shady Sundays that follow.
