Auckland's favourite milk and cookie cafe returns with some unique new bakes.
When Moustache Milk & Cookie Bar announced it was closing the doors to its Wellesley Street flagship earlier this year, over 700 people took to Facebook to express their woe. “This is a tragedy!” wrote one fan, “My heart is breaking” said another, while colourful expletives and depressed emojis ran rife. It was a travesty on the sweet food scene felt by many, so now that the local cookie experts have returned to a new city space, we don’t doubt celebration will ensue.
A genuine milk and cookie joint serving fresh baked biscuits morning till night, the Moustache flagship is now open in K Road’s soon to be completed dining hub: Food Workshop. Staying true to what they know (and what we want) the cookie connoisseurs are serving up all their classics along with an ever-revolving ‘cookie of the week’, milks, shakes and coffee. They’ve also introduced a handy takeaway window out front of the shop for those on the run, allowing even the time-pressed the chance to grab, gobble and go.
As the modern-day Willy Wonkas, the new digs also serves as Moustache’s ‘innovation lab’ where the team will conduct gastronomic experiments that push the parameters of what a cookie can be. Already on the horizon is a range of savoury snacks, with the mouse trap, eggs benedict, smashed avo and nacho cookies set to hit the cabinet any day now. Though if we’re honest, it’s still the sweet treats that have us calling.
White chocolate macadamia, Oreo marshmallow, black forest and peanut butter; the buttery sweet creations tempt with a whole host of flavours. And though we couldn’t quite agree on a favourite after testing a small mountain of the delectable morsels, what we can say is that it seems Moustache is indeed back — just as good as ever.
