This Parnell eatery is suited to a relaxed mid-week meal with friends.
The thing that we like about Next Door, is that it offers variety. From the sun-drenched courtyard to the light-filled dining room, intimate evening conservatory and cosy bar nook, it’s the type of place that can cater to all occasions. Named for its proximity to the owners’ other Auckland eatery, Foundation on George, (which sits, literally, next door) the Parnell restaurant delivers just what a neighbourhood bistro should — a comfortable setting, tasty food and crowd-pleasing drink list.
Open for lunch, dinner, coffee and cocktails; the menu celebrates classic bistro fare with an elegant edge. There’s plenty to tempt, starting off with an inclusive assortment of entrées like beef tartare, beetroot ‘textures’ and a port gel-accompanied chicken liver paté. For the main event, it’s baked Hapuka with crayfish risotto, beef Wellington, lamb rack off the bone and a deconstructed Banh Mi that will keep diners sated. Pushing through to dessert, the fairy floss-topped citrus tart or new-age pavlova (that claims to be ‘better than Mum’s’) are just the treats to top it all off.
Putting convenience first, Next Door allows you to reserve tables or walk in, welcomes families and offers plenty of parking out back. A welcoming spot, with interiors by neighbouring design boutique Cavit & Co, it’s the kind of establishment that suits a casual Wednesday dinner with friends or family. Why not pop in and welcome them to the neighbourhood?
