Peanut-laden bang bang chicken, succulent pork ribs, crispy soft shell crab and oodles of Sriracha is what comes to mind when we think of our favourite Southeast Asian eats. And any restaurant that serves up the goods — all the better if they’re especially hot ‘n’ spicy — is usually worth a try before inevitably being added to our dining-out repertoire.
SKYCITY’S Spice Alley is the latest addition to the ranks where inexpensive fare collides with a cheerful environment for a gratifying result.
The newly appointed eatery has Head Chef Panthep ‘Pan’ Sae Sue at the helm, a Thai maestro who is known to frequent food stalls in his homeland (and beyond) to bring the best and most authentic cooking methods back with him. This explains why the crispy pork hock looks so enticing and the deep fried salmon wings go so well with their accompanying sweet and sour sauce. It’s everything you want from the beloved Southeast Asian genre.
Set within SKYCITY’s atrium area, the colourful ‘sunbrellas’ and tchotchkes that adorn the roof are paired with even more brighter upholstery and a live plant wall for a fun-filled atmosphere. With Thai-inspired cocktails and cold beer at the ready, Spice Alley is an easy and flavour-fuelled option.
