Grey Lynn’s Tart Bakery is something of an institution. A quaint, family-owned pastry shop that has been delighting locals since 2012, the Great North Road pitstop has a unique point of difference — every flaky treat happens to be vegan. You’d never guess it though. With classic flavours and textures down pat, Tart’s encompassing selection more than holds its own against traditional baked goods. Bringing that stellar reputation to a new part of town, the beloved bakers have opened a second outpost in St Kevins Arcade.

Boasting the same tried and tested selection as the original, it’s a varied line-up you’re met with upon visiting. Danishes, croissants, pastries, cronuts, ‘meat’ pies, ‘sausage’ rolls, sandwiches and breads make an appearance, as well as the famed (coconut) cream doughnuts — a gratifying treat that many have been known to line up for. All of this and a freshly brewed coffee (frothed with your choice of nut milk) too, if you haven’t yet experienced Tart’s plant-based brilliance, we suggest stopping by.
