Don’t forget your red socks! Team New Zealand’s favourite good luck charm is back

If you remember the last time Black Magic competed on home turf, you’ll remember the sea of red socks that distinguished its supporters. Thanks to Sir Peter Blake and his victorious team, they became a universal symbol for backing the Kiwi spirit, and something every New Zealander probably has sitting in the back of a drawer somewhere.

Now, the famous red socks have returned thanks to the Blake Foundation and The Warehouse Group. Retaining their recognisable red but with a slightly updated design, the new lucky red socks are available to buy from The Warehouse for five dollars a pair. And if their return alone wasn’t enough, $2.50 of every pair bought will be put into Blake’s environmental leadership programmes, designed to inspire young people to step up and drive New Zealand into a more sustainable future.

So before the America’s Cup really gets going, be sure to pick up your pair of lucky red socks. Who knows? It could be just the thing Team New Zealand needs to keep the Auld Mug at home.
