Go hard at home with these HIIT workouts to get the blood pumping

Gyms and fitness studios around the world are encouraging people to stay indoors and stay active. For fitness junkies used to hardcore workouts, getting an endoprhin rush in the lounge room can be challenging but a HIIT workout can help you work up a sweat while toning muscles.
Many gyms already offer subscription services but are giving generous trial periods during the age of self-isolation. Here are some options to shake the floorboards in your living room.

Studio Box
The brainchild of Black Sticks star and celebrity trainer, Dwayne Rowsell, Studio Box in Newmarket has been offering calorie-blitzing, muscle-toning classes since opening last year.
Roswell has been quick to step up to recent challenges by offering a series of at-home workouts that include HIIT and boxing via Instagram live.
There’s also a Studio Box Spotify playlist to help create some atmosphere. The best things about Rowsell’s workouts and updates is that he doesn’t make it look easy. Watching the athlete sweat alongside you is perfect motivation. Check @_studiobox for updates.

Sala
The slick design of Sala’s online studio almost makes up for not being able to workout in their boutique workout space in Ponsonby. Londoner Sarah Lindsay created Sala to give Auckland the kind of workout she missed after leaving England. Their online HIIT classes, including Pilates HIIT, offer a serious workout, for $25 per month and each session comes with a carefully curated playlist. You can also join their livestream classes at 12pm on their Instagram account @sala_akl, including calming Yoga for when you need a break from burpees.

Centr
Whether you want to look like Chris Hemsworth or look at the Thor star, his Centr fitness app offers instant gratification. You can lockdown with Hemsworth and his fitness team for a full six week trial that includes access to some serious HIIT classes. Experts, such as A-list trainer Luke Zocchi and Mrs Thor Elsa Pataky,  will take you through classes where you can set your goals and intensity levels. And you don’t need a hammer nor a cape.

Les Mills
Currently offering free daily workouts on TVNZ at 9am, Les Mills also has its internationally respected classes available online, including a serious HIIT class. Trial the range of classes for 14 days before signing up and be a part of New Zealand’s largest fitness community. Check the Les Mills Instagram for TV class updates.
