Market stalls are beautiful things. From the epicurean to the egalitarian, you can rest assured that your Saturday or Sunday morning cravings will be met by some sort of delicious creation.
This Sunday just been, our cravings were satiated by the humble sandwiches crafted by a new breed of expert sarnie-builders, the Bacon Brothers. Founded four years ago in a Christchurch that was facing the tough challenge of rebuilding itself, it was the three Bilbrough brothers who set out to establish somthing deliciously unique. From a passion for good quality bacon and banter, Bacon Brothers was born.
Following ample success at their local farmers markets, a collaboration with the University of Canterbury, catering at weddings and music gigs, these bros have managed to enshrine as much happiness as they have bacon, good chat and the several thousand ‘free hugs’ with their delicious offering.
Fortunately for us, the youngest Bilbrough, Luke, has collaborated with his brother from another mother, Caleb Walsh, to bring the Bacon Brothers way of life to Auckland. Stationed up every Saturday and Sunday at the La Cigale Britomart markets, proffering their free-range Pokeno bacon butties in all manner of glorious variations. They even have a gluten-free bun. So yeah, there’s no excuse not to.
